Macau
Macau (also Macao), is a city on the southern coast of China, located 60 km west of Hong Kong and 145 km southwest of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province. Officially known as the Macau Special Administrative Region, is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong. Macau was once an island but gradually a connecting sandbar turned into a narrow isthmus, Land growth has accelerated since the last quarter of the 20th century, from 15 square kilometers in 1972 to 16.1 square kilometers in 1983 to 21.3 square kilometers in 1994. Macau's size has gradually increased as result of continued land reclamation, especially on Taipa and Coloane. In 2000, the total land area was approximately 23.6 km˛. The territory has thriving industries such as textiles, electronics and toys, and a notable tourist industry that boasts a wide range of hotels, resorts, stadiums, restaurants and casinos.
Weather
Macau has a sub-tropical climate, with a yearly average of 20°C (68°F). Humidity is highest through the typhoon season in June, when 30°C (86°F) temperatures accompany torrential downpours that continue through until September. Autumn (October-December) brings a cool change and the humidity declines a little. The winter period (January-March) can be cold (down to 10°C/50°F), but the sun is never far away. From April Macau starts to get muggy again, maintaining a yearly humidity average of between 70% and 90%.
Casinos
Macau is now considered to be one of the major gambling centers of the world and the sky is the limit for how this can continue. A hotspot for tourism, many Chinese tourists frequent Macau’s casinos and other foreign tourist have long ago discovered Macau’s attractive casinos.
